How to Prepare General Section (Verbal Ability and Numerical Ability) of GATE

Graduate Aptitude Test of Engineering is a test is grounded on the Engineering syllabus as well as General Aptitude.

In GATE exam GA section covers 15 marks. This section is easy to prepare and raise your score. The article listed the important topics for GATE.
This is an easy scoring section. It is broadly divided into two portions,

  1. Verbal Ability

  2. Numerical Ability

Verbal ability questions are easy to answer and less time consuming.

  • English Grammar

Covers the questions such as, find out grammatically correct and incorrect sentences, correctly and incorrectly spelling words.

  • Verbal Analogies

Identify the relationship between the given words in the group.

  • Word Groups

These questions often use synonyms and antonyms (words which have either the same or opposite meanings), dictionary definitions and word pairs.

  • Instructions

Answer the questions based only on the information that you are given. Such kind of questions are easy to answer but information is given in the question should be read carefully.

  • Critical Reasoning & Verbal Deduction

It tests your ability to take a series of facts expressed in words and to understand and manipulate the information to solve a specific problem.

Spelling, grammar, Sentence completion, pair of related words, synonyms,antonyms, and verbal deductions.

Preparation of the only above topics is not enough for GATE Exam, practice previous GATE Questions and attempt online practice tests to understand/remember/revise the concepts.

Sometime numerical ability questions are easy but time consuming. However with proper knowledge and short cuts, Numerical ability questions can also be finished swiftly.

It tests the individual’s ability of solving straightforward questions as fast as they could. It depends on how fast each individual answers.

These kinds of questions are answered based on the reasoning done on the information provided. Such reasoning is based on real time scenarios like financial data etc.

  • Critical reasoning

Information is provided that requires you to interpret it and then apply the appropriate logic to answer the questions.

  • Data Interpretation

It determines a person’s ability to extract the correct data from tables, graphs and charts.

Speed-distance-time, Number series, summation, Logical Inference, cost-profit,Data Interpretation, Ages, Work (Days-workers), velocity, Modulo problems, clock problems, Directions, Clock problems, Distance-direction-east-west-north-south, Triangle problems, percentage, probability, tangent, Base/Radix Numbers.
